Ruby is a self-taught ceramicist juxtaposing materiality and narrative. She is inspired by the archaeological nature of storytelling, and how these timelines are stored within physical forms and objects. Inspired by the histories of craft and their manners of expression, Ruby’s work un-packs and detangles her own fascinations with the making process. Often making and remaking to understand specific material qualities and ideas, this making through thinking is expressed in her unique style. She is interested in the interactions between object and viewer and how the histories being projected can meld to create intimate moments between the observer and the observed.

The Dark Swallow Cups by Ruby Kinnear-Jones combine the intimacy of hand-formed ceramics with a quietly dramatic aesthetic. Crafted in black vulcan clay, each cup’s rounded form and surface textures invites touch, while the bird-like feet add a sculptural, whimsical detail. The set of four transforms everyday use into a contemplative experience, bridging craft, narrative, and subtle storytelling.
